Cancun, Q.R. — Residents were evacuated from an apartment building Tuesday night after after a third floor unit caught fire. Cancun firemen, police and Civil Protection were at the scene in SM 4 in response to requests for help.

The fire happened around 10:30 p.m. in a residential building on Bonampak Avenue and Cobá. Firefighters arrived to a completely engulfed apartment. Rapid intervention prevented the fire from spreading to other units.
According to the Cancun Fire Department, the fire burned through the apartment’s living area, kitchen and terrace. There were no injuries reported. While they did not provide a specific cause for the fire, they did say “carelessness can lead to tragedy”.
In a statement, Bomberos Cancun said “a report of a fire was received in an apartment located in Superblock 4, on Bonampak Avenue and Cobá, across from C5. Upon arrival, a live fire was detected in a third-floor apartment. The fire affected the following areas: main living area, terrace, and kitchenette.

“The fire consumed various materials as well as various objects in the home. Our personnel proceeded to extinguish, remove, and provide mechanical ventilation, achieving complete control of the fire without further incident.

“Likewise, Cancun Civil Protection personnel evacuated the residents and their pets from the building for greater safety and protection. Cancun Police and Cancun Traffic were present on-site, and we thank them for their support during the emergency. Remember! Carelessness can lead to tragedy.”
