Cancun, Q.R. — Recovery personnel have located the body of a man who went swimming in a Cancun lagoon late Sunday. Although a rescue mission began that evening, efforts to locate the man were halted due to due lack of light.
Reports say the man went swimming in the artificial lagoon known as ABC Sunday afternoon around 6:15 p.m. with friends. Emergency personnel were called after he failed to reappear. Elements of Civil Protection, the Cancun Fire Department and divers from the Red Cross continued their search efforts Monday, finally locating the body of the man.
Elements of Civil Protection reported finding the missing body of 23-year-old Daniel H. at 3:00 p.m. Monday. He is the third person to fall victim to drowning in the lagoon during the Covid epidemic. Last month, the bodies of two other young men were pulled from the same lagoon after they were reported missing after swimming with friends.
The artificial lagoon is located in the El Pedregal neighborhood of Cancun.
