Cancun, Q.R. — Thick black smoke could be seen for kilometers while a boat burned in Cancun Hotel Zone waters. The private boat caught fire near the Calinda Bridge Monday afternoon around 2:00 p.m.
Other boaters passing by snapped shots as the vessel began to eminate white smoke. Within minutes, that white smoke turned to black as the vessel caught fire. Flames were seen shooting out of the center of the boat which prompted the rapid mobilization of emergency services.
Rescue teams, including firefighters and marine personnel, responded along with several passing boats who tried to help. Tourist Police and National Guard also arrived at the scene.
There were no injuries reported. The investigation is being handled by Civil Protection who have pointed to a possible electrical issue as a cause for the fire.
