Cancun, Q.R. — The family of a man who fell overboard in a Cancun canal requested search assistance from authorities. On Sunday evening, Cancun’s Tourist Police were notified of a person overboard in an artificial canal of Puerto Cancun.
Authorities in the C5 Centre of Cancun received the report at 7:45 p.m. Sunday, at which time they were told that a passenger from a boat that had arrived to dock, fell overboard. Civil protection and other emergency authorities began a search for the missing passenger.
According to security personnel at the pier, it was around 7:20 when the vessel Casanova arrived to dock at the Puerto Cancun pier. While the people onboard were disembarking, one of the male passengers fell into the canal.
Both the boat’s captain and relatives of 35-year-old Rubén N jumped in after him, however, he was not found. After an unsuccessful search of their own, authorities were notified. They began a search, but due to lack of light, the search was suspended Sunday night.
Without providing details, authorities reportedly located the body two hours after their search began on Monday morning. Reports say the body of Rubén N was found floating in the canal near where he was seen falling in the night before.
