Cancun, Q.R. — A Friday afternoon accident outside the city of Cancun has left one person dead upon impact. Emergency services responding to the accident found the driver of a car had crashed into a concrete guardrail.

The accident happened on the highway in the west section of Cancun late Friday afternoon. Two young men were in the vehicle. One was killed on impact. The second received non-life-threatening injuries.
According to initial reports, the car was traveling the highway when the driver crashed into the wall as he started to take a corner.
Passing motorists reported the accident to 9-1-1. Emergency personnel from Cancun arrived to find one dead male still inside the car. The top passenger side of the vehicle had been sheared off, killing the front seat passenger.
The driver of the car survived with minor injuries. He was treated at the scene and later taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation.

National Guard Highways cordoned off the area while the body was removed and the vehicle towed. A cause for the crash has not been determined.
