Authorities investigate early morning murder of Cancun ‘professional’

Cancun, Q.R. — State authorities have begun an investigation into the early morning murder of a man shot to death inside his car. The shooting happened around 9:00 a.m. Thursday in SM 316 in the Gran Santa Fe neighborhood of Cancun.

The now-deceased, Eduardo “M”, 31, from Yucatan but a resident of Cancun, was driving along 127th Avenue when a man on a motorcycle began shooting. The driver of the car was reportedly hit six times. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Educardo “M” was heading to his accounting office at the time of the shooting. At least nine spent shell casings from a handgun were located at the scene.

Quintana Roo State Attorney General (FGE) head, Raciel Salazar, arrived at the scene. It is not clear why Salazar was there.

However, from the scene he did confirm the victim was an “accounting professional” who was arriving at his office when he was shot. Salazar stated that at the moment there is no solid line of investigation, and that they were still gathering information.

In a statement Thursday afternoon, the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE) reported “the opening of an investigation after the attack in which a male person was killed on the streets of a subdivision located in Supermanzana 316 in the municipality of Benito Juárez.

“The incident occurred when the victim, a professional whose identity is reserved, was aboard his car and was injured by a firearm projectile fired by a subject who was traveling on a motorcycle

“The Attorney General’s Office, in collaboration with the Coordination for the Construction of Peace and Security of Quintana Roo, is working to clarify this event and find the person or persons responsible.”
