Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun firemen were called to a palapa fire Friday after neighbors found the grass structure burning. The public park fire was reported Friday afternoon.
By the time firemen arrived, the structure was completely engulfed in flames and unable to be saved. The palapa was part of a children’s playground centered in a residential area.
Authorities are still investigating the cause and reported that there were no injuries during the afternoon incident.
In a press briefing, the Cancun Fire Department said “Attention to Palapa Fire in Public Area. Members of the Cancun Fire Department responded to a palapa fire in a residential area of the city.

“Upon arrival, personnel found a palapa completely engulfed in flames. They immediately implemented firefighting and cooling operations, successfully extinguishing the fire and securing the area.
“No injuries were reported.
“The palapa was part of a park in the area, and authorities are being coordinated for follow-up. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
“We reiterate our call to the public to take care of public spaces, avoid using fire in recreational areas, and report any hazardous situation immediately. In case of emergency, contact the official numbers.”
