Authorities confirm body found that of Cancun teen reported missing over weekend

Cancun, Q.R. — Local authorities have confirmed the discovery of the body of a missing Cancun teen. The 17 year old boy was reported missing by his family over the weekend.

His body was found off a Cancun highway Monday night. On Tuesday, the Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office confirmed that the body found was that of Gael Antonio Martinez who was reported missing November 29.

Authorities were alerted to the body Monday night in SM 260 on the Avenida 20 de Noviembre extension road between two residential areas. The discovery came after an anonymous call to 911 alerted authorities about suspicious bags on the side of the road.

Minicipal Police confirmed the report of the bag and its contents. Sources close to the investigation indicated that the body showed signs of having been beaten and restrained, as well as a neck injury consistent with asphyxiation.

The young 17 year old worked at a Cancun pizzeria and was last seen Saturday night when he left work with a group of friends. His family filed the missing persons report after being unable to contact him.

Authorities are continuing their investigation and exploring various lines of inquiry related to the young man’s social circle and the people he was with before his disappearance.

Several addresses have already been identified as points of interest in the investigation including one of the male friends in his company Saturday night.
