Cancun, Q.R. — Another beach raid in Cancun resulted in the recovery of space after authorities seized illegally placed furniture. The Attorney General of the State said on Saturday, authorities seized the illegal beach furniture from Playa Tortugas.
Tortugas, one of the city’s more popular beaches, was visited by more than a dozen officers who located an area of loungers that were placed without permits. The furniture was seized from the Cancun Hotel Zone beach as part of the municipality’s Safe Beach Program, which makes an effort to keep beach areas clear of illegal activity.
It is the second time in months that authorities have had reason to inspect the Playa Tortugas beach area. Vendors who place illegal beach furniture do so without city permits, yet charge beachgoers to use them.
In June, police raided the same beach and seized truck loads of illegal furniture as well as destroying illegally placed structures. That came a day after two men were gunned down and one female tourist injured.
