Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun police are investigating the death of a man outside a city ATM Thursday. Police were notified of a bloodied man laying on a sidewalk after withdrawing cash and leaving the ATM.
According to witnesses, he was intercepted and robbed before being assaulted. He collapsed to the ground meters from the front door where paramedics confirmed him dead. He was found laying on his back with a large chest wound.
The 8:00 a.m. robbery happened directly outside a bank on José López Portillo Avenue. The man, who has not been named, is reported to have been a senior citizen.
Witnesses reported hearing gunfire. Police have not said if the man was shot or stabbed during the broad daylight attack.
Municipal Police sectioned off the crime scene while personnel from the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) collected evidence and removed the body.
