Cancun, Q.R. — Police in Cancun were alerted to the discovery of at least seven weapons that had been discarded. The guns were found early Thursday morning in several of the city’s northern regions.
Three guns were found during the early morning hours in Vista Real. Several hours later, another four were located in two separate areas of the Villas del Mar residential area.
The guns found are believed to be shotguns. According to information obtained, the found weapons could be those Cancun police have been looking for since last weekend.
On January 14, two takedown operations in Cancun lead to the arrest of 13 criminal cell members and the seizure of six weapons. The arrests were made from intel received by authorities.
That intel, according to FGE head Óscar Montes de Oca during a recent press conference, included the possibility of 20 weapons that he said they were continuing a search for.
A public statement has not been made on whether these latest weapons found are part of the 20 thought to be in possession of these criminal cell members.
