Arrests of heavily armed men in Cancun leads police to burial site

Cancun, Q.R. — A weekend Cancun police operation has lead to the arrests of two heavily armed men and the finding of at least one dead body. An anonymous report alerted authorities to several subjects who entered a green area carrying a bound and beaten man.

The anonymous witness said they saw the men leave the green area but not with the bound man.

Police began a search into the tip which lead to the arrests of two men. The Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) police specified that during the operation, two detainees were found in possession of three replica firearms, four real firearms, four drones, ballistic vests and marijuana.

After their arrests, police were given the location of at least one dead body. The body was found inside a cenote in the Monte Sinaí suburb area of Cancun.

The two now-detained men were located traveling inside a white compact car Sunday afternoon. The men are reported to have given police the location of two bodies, both of whom were shot to death after being stripped of their motorcycle.

Both bodies were dumped in different areas in SM 244, one of which was the cenote. Police continued their search operation Sunday for additional bodies. The area where the bodies were reported dumped is considered a red light or high crime zone in the city.
