Another Playa del Carmen taxi driver found dead from passenger attack

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Another Playa del Carmen taxi driver has been killed in a violent event that involved stabbing by a passenger. The driver, who has not been identified, died after being stabbed while inside his cab.

The attack happened Saturday morning when he stopped to drop off his passenger in the Villas del Sol neighborhood. The assailant escaped on foot after attacking him with a knife.

The driver died before medical help arrived June 2026.

No arrests have been reported so far.

The incident happened early Saturday morning when the driver stopped between Cigüeñas and CTM Avenues at the request of his passenger.

Once stopped, the passenger attacked the driver with a knife. He was found seriously injured by area residents who called police. The driver died before medical help arrived.

Residents reported seeing someone run from the taxi on foot in an “unknown direction”.

The area was cordoned off while police investigated and the body of the taxi driver removed. Authorities have not announced a possible motive for the fatal attack.

Over the weekend, police found another Playa del Carmen taxi driver dead inside his unit. The cab was reported abandoned on the side of the highway between Cancun and Playa del Carmen.

At the scene, police located a dead driver inside. He too, had been attacked with a knife.
