Cancun, Q.R. — Personnel from the Cancun Animal Protection Department removed a dog reported suffering from malnutrition. A concerned neighbor made the report over the weekend that lead to the dog’s rescue.

The animal was found severely neglected, being skin and bones and unable to walk. It was found laying in a drying stream of its own urine since it could not get up to urinate.
City personnel requested entrance assistance from the Cancun Fire Department who arrived with bolt cutters. A forced entry was required to access the dog in the front area of the property.
Authorities said the dog was found in a lived-in home and was not abandoned. However, the people who owned the dog failed to provide “the minimum conditions for the animal’s well-being.”
The Animal Protection and Welfare Department of Cancun later provided a briefing on the incident.

“Following a citizen report and with the support of the Fire Department, we responded to a case of a dog found in a state of obvious neglect, suffering from malnutrition and dehydration.
“Unfortunately, these situations are not isolated. Many of the reports we receive daily occur in homes where someone is responsible for providing the minimum conditions for the animal’s well-being.
“From the Animal Protection and Welfare Department, we went to safeguard the dog’s well-being, provide veterinary care, and refer the case to the appropriate authorities.
“Animal welfare in our municipality is everyone’s responsibility. Report it by sending a message to WhatsApp: +52 998 489 0092.”
