AMLO arrives in the south to tour sections of Maya Train progress

Chetumal, Q.R. — A flyover of two sections of the Maya Train has been completed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador who arrived to see the construction progress. On Thursday, AMLO said he would be arriving to the southern states to perform a quick tour of the train’s progress.

He arrived Friday and toured sections 1 from Palenque, Chiapas to Escárcega, Campeche as well as section 7, which will run from Bacalar, Quintana Roo to Escárcega, Campeche.

“I am going to supervise from Tabasco and Chiapas, Campeche and Quintana Roo,” he said Thursday. “We will fly over section 1 and section 7 of the Mayan Train by helicopter and we will see the line and the advance of the embankment.”

According to the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur), section 1 is a distance of 221 kilometers and is being built by the Mota-Engil Mexico Consortium. Section 7, which will run from Bacalar, Quintana Roo to Escárcega, Campeche has a length of 287 kilometers and is being constructed by the Mexican Army. That section will run parallel to the Carretera Federal 186.

Last week, Fonatur released details of the upcoming train project, including names and renders of the three types of cars that will be available.
