Cancun, Q.R. — An American woman caught entering the country with a weapon will be held in preventative detention during her trial. Over the weekend, Sameka H was arrested from the Cancun International Airport after federal officials found a handgun in her luggage.
During her Monday arraignment, a Cancun judge ordered her held in prison for at least one month while her case moves forward. She is accused of entering Mexico with a .9 millimeter pistol. Her gun was located inside her luggage during an inspection by the National Guard.
The judge ordered Sameka H to be held in preventative detention at the Centro de Retención de Cancun (Cereso).
