Cancun, Q.R. — Although an investigation into the Friday incident is still underway, preliminary reports say an American has died while in police custody. On Friday afternoon, the man was arrested in the Cancun Hotel Zone on administrative charges.
After his arrest, he was taken to a police cell at the Cancun Hotel Zone station where he reportedly died shortly after being processed. The man, identified as 36-year-old Jack Raymon, is reported to have began convulsing while in his cell.
Medical personnel responding to the C5 report arrived at the Cancun Hotel Zone precinct only to pronounce him dead.
Raymon was arrested by police from Kukulcán Boulevard Friday afternoon for an alleged administrative offense. At the time of his arrest, police reported the person as being “intoxicated with prohibited substances.”
The Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office has opened an investigation into the events, while an autopsy will determine his official cause of death.
