Cancun, Q.R. — An ADO bus running the Merida-Cancun route burned in its entirety Saturday after catching fire. The incident had Merida firemen motoring down the highway to meet the burning bus, which was nearly 100 kilometers into its trip when they received the report.
The fire started shortly after the bus departed Merida for the city of Cancun Saturday afternoon. Preliminary reports say sparks from one of the rims of the bus started the fire after a rear tire exploded.
The popular bus line was carrying an undisclosed number of passengers when the accident happened. Firemen responding to the incident did not report any injures in the mishap.
The ADO bus tire burst near a Maya Train construction site. Workers from the site were able to help control flames with their own water supply until firemen arrived. The unit was a complete loss.
