23 injured in late night Cancun bus crash after driver slams into central ridge

Cancun, Q.R. — At least 23 people were injured in a Cancun bus crash late Friday night. The accident happened on Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard around 10:00 p.m.

It was after midnight when authorities finally reported on the accident. According to Protección Civil Cancún, a total of 23 bus passengers were injured after the driver slammed into the central ridge near an overpass.

“We provided assistance to 23 injured at the overpass of Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard in front of Bonfil, supported by elements of Civil Bonfil, derived from the accident where a passenger bus lost control, colliding with the central ridge,” they posted on social media.

The driver of the bus was heading toward Cancun when he lost control and hit the central ridge. Metal poles were ripped from their bases in the incident, leaving the front of the bus completely destroyed.

Tránsito de Cancún also reported on the late night accident which caused additional traffic chaos on one of the city’s busiest streets since the accident created a partial closure on the Boulevard.

Police have not provided a cause for the accident.
