133 bikes seized and 100 arrests made: Cancun police set up anti-ride operation ahead of planned city rally

Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun Mayor Ana Paty Peralta confirmed 133 motorcycles were seized in a city anti-ride operation. The seizure happened Sunday night “to preserve order and security on public roads.”

She said the operation was “part of the actions to reinforce security on public roads and protect the integrity of pedestrians, motorists and motorcyclists.” On Sunday night, Cancun police implemented a preventive operation of the “Lives in Motion” program as part of a strategy to inhibit risky practices and prevent criminal behavior.

The deployment involved the participation of the Citizen Security, Transit, Internal Affairs and Emergency Medical Rescue Squad (ERUM) departments. The operation was under the command of Secretary Jaime Padilla Barrientos and by order of the Mayor, Ana Paty Peralta.

Cancun police were set up at the intersection of avenues 135 and 127 where, according to Mayor Peralta, “motorcyclists were detected performing accelerations, stunts and possible competitions on public roads, behaviors that constitute administrative offenses according to Article 56 of the Civic Justice Regulations for the Municipality of Benito Juárez.”

A total of 133 motorcycles were towed and 100 arrests made April 5, 2026.

“As a result of the operation, 100 people were arrested and brought before the Civic Judge, and 133 motorcycles were seized” she reported Monday.

On Sunday night in SM 215 of Cancun, police arrived with tow trucks ahead of a planned motorcycle rally. The operation involved dozens of officers who stopped drivers to check their legal paperwork.

The Cancun Police Department reports that these actions will continue permanently in the city with an emphasis on prevention, risk reduction and protecting the safety of everyone.
