Othón P. Blanco, Q.R. — Workers from a telecommunications company were taken to hospital after being attacked by a swarm of African bees. Paramedics stabilized the three men before transferring them to a hospital in Chetumal.
The attack happened on the outskirts of the town of Ucum where the three men were installing fiber optic cable. While digging through brush, they disturbed a nest of African bees.
Paramedics arrived to find all three struggling to breath after being stung multiple times. Paramedics from the RINO Urban Rescue Group were able to stabilize the men before rushing them to hospital. Each worker is reported to have been found stung more than 10 times.

African bees are often referred to as killer bees due to their aggressive nature and deadly sting. Apiculturists say disturbed African bees will chase a human or animal for up to half a mile.
