Women found murdered near the Kohunlich Archaeological Zone identified

Othón P. Blanco, Q.R. — The two women found murdered near the Kohunlich Archaeological Zone this week have been identified. Police say the two women, who were found dead after leaving their work with a third person, were employees of a Kohunlich hotel.

The women left their place of work on September 27 with a third person identified as 21 year old Aquiles “N” in a company van. A search began when they did not show up at the hotel as expected later that day.

The 21-year-old man was found severely beaten in Caobas and rushed to the Chetumal General Hospital. He was found outside an eatery near the customs checkpoint on the Caobas–Xpujil highway with injuries to his face and neck and was noted as having difficulty speaking and breathing.

He remains in hospital.

The State Attorney General (FGE) has confirmed the murders of Misael “N” and Liliana “N”, employees of the hotel. Their bodies were found Sunday night next to a van belonging to the hotel.

Their bodies were found Sunday night several kilometers from their place of work.

The women were found near the parked van approximately four kilometers before the archaeological zone located about 65 kilometers west of Chetumal on highway 186.

Reports regarding the employees indicate that three people left the establishment early Sunday afternoon in a white van. Their failure to return prompted a search, and the vehicle was subsequently located near a lagoon.

Although some accounts identify the injured young man as the third employee, preliminary information indicates that authorities have not yet publicly confirmed this link.

The precise causes of death have not been established either. A possible robbery is among the hypotheses mentioned in reports. The investigation is open and ongoing.
