Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A Playa del Carmen woman who was set on fire by her ex-husband in September has died. The woman, Edith “N”, was doused in gasoline and set on fire while at her workplace.
She was rushed to hospital with burns to more than half of her body. After three months in hospital, she died on November 14.
Her former husband was arrested shortly after the incident. On the evening of September 5, he is alleged to have walked into the laundromat where she worked, doused her in gasoline and set her on fire. Nearby residents heard her screams for help and called police.
Her former husband, identified by the State Attorney General as “Julio César “N”, who they reported in September was charged for events that occurred on September 5 of this year, when around 5:30 p.m. he showed up at a laundromat located on Calle 4 Norte, block 76 of the Centro neighborhood where his former partner worked.
“Upon entering the premises, the now detained man doused the woman with gasoline and then set her on fire before fleeing. The victim was taken to a hospital, as she suffered serious burns.”
