Suspect who doused former girlfriend in gas before lighting her on fire charged

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The main suspect in the attempted murder of a Playa del Carmen woman has been officially charged. On Tuesday, authorities reported on the official charges laid against Julio César “N” for trying to kill his former girlfriend by dousing her in gas before lighting her on fire.

In a statement, local authorities said “Julio César “N” was charged for events that occurred on September 5 of this year, when around 5:30 p.m. he showed up at a laundromat located on Calle 4 Norte, block 76 of the Centro neighborhood, where his former partner worked.

“Upon entering the premises, the now detained man doused the woman with gasoline and then set her on fire before fleeing. The victim was taken to a hospital, as she suffered serious burns.”

The suspect, who had been wanted by police after being identified by the woman, was located last week after neighbors reported two men fighting on their residential street.

Police arrived to find their main suspect in the attempted murder was one of those involved in the fight.
