Street fight leads PDC police to suspect wanted for attempted murder

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A suspect wanted in relation to the attempted murder of a Playa del Carmen woman has been arrested. Julio César ‘N’, 55, was arrested Monday night after residents in Villas del Sol reported a street fight to police.

Responding officers found the men outside an apartment complex where one allegedly stabbed himself in the abdomen after realizing police had identified him. Julio César ‘N’ was wanted by local authorities as the main suspect in the attempted murder of a woman last week.

On Thursday, a woman identified as being the man’s former girlfriend was doused with gasoline and set on fire at her place of work. She was rushed to hospital in critical condition after suffering second and third degree burns to 45 percent of her body.

The man believed responsible was “fully identified” by police the following day in a public statement, but not arrested until Monday night. Prior to his arrest, the suspect allegedly attempted to take his own life by stabbing himself. He was transferred to hospital under police guard.
