Woman in possession of gun used in three murders under investigation

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A woman found in possession of a gun connected to three local murders is under investigation. Police say Elvia Marisol “N” has been arrested for drug and weapons possession.

She was taken into custody on CTM Avenue in the El Edén neighborhood where she was intercepted during an operation. Since her arrest, police say the weapon she was carrying at the time of her arrest matches the weapon used in three murders.

Authorties said at the time of her arrest, Elvia Marisol “N” was carrying a loaded gun used in two Cancun murders and one Playa del Carmen murder.

“The State Attorney General’s Office reports that as a result of intelligence work and field operations, members of the Investigative Police arrested a woman identified as Elvia Marisol “N”.

She was arrested “for her probable participation in acts possibly constituting crimes against health and for violations of the Federal Law on Firearms and Explosives,” police reported.

“The operation took place on CTM Avenue in the El Edén neighborhood where officers intercepted the suspect. A search revealed she was in possession of synthetic material containing green, dried plant material resembling marijuana.

“He was also found in possession of a 9mm caliber handgun with a magazine loaded with live ammunition.

“Based on initial comparative ballistics studies and forensic intelligence analysis, the seized weapon is allegedly linked to three homicide crimes: one in the municipality of Benito Juárez and two in Playa del Carmen.

“Among the homicides recorded in Playa del Carmen is the one that occurred in the La Guadalupana subdivision on March 12 of this year.”
