Woman charged with aggravated homicide in point blank shooting death of Cancun officer

Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun woman has been formally charged in the killing of a municipal police officer. On Thursday, the State Attorney General (FGE) identified the woman, Yolanda Berenice “N”, as the person who shot the officer to death June 16.

According to the FGE, Yolanda “N” is facing charges of aggravated homicide against a municipal police officer.

“The events for which Yolanda Berenice “N” is being investigated occurred on June 16 of this year, when the victim and her son were walking on Cenote Sagrado Street between Arrecife Avenue and Mantén Chi Street in the Paraíso Maya subdivision in Supermanzana 107, in order to take her son to high school.

“The now-defendant carried a firearm, approached the victim and shot him several times, killing him. She also injured the victim’s son. The accused subsequently fled the scene, but police officers captured her.

“Following her arrest, a judge reviewed the evidence provided and determined that Yolanda Berenice “N” would be held in custody for two years or the duration of the judicial proceedings,” they reported in a statement Thursday.
