Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A taxi driver involved in a crash early Thursday morning left the scene. Police found the car abandoned after motorists reported the destroyed vehicle in the middle of the road.
According to early information, the driver of the Playa del Carmen taxi slammed into the back of a semi.
The accident happened near the Cruz de Servicios neighborhood around 5:00 a.m.
Motorists reported the scene to 9-1-1. Eye witnesses told police that the driver of the taxi failed to slow down in time when the semi in front slowed to go over a speed bump.
The taxi driver was reported speeding he hit the back of the semi, eventually abandoning it in the middle of the street.
Witnesses stated that after hitting the semi, the driver got out of his vehicle and hailed another taxi to leave the scene.
Municipal Transit officers were sent to investigate the accident and track down the taxi driver.
