Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A man believed to be a loan shark was shot in Playa del Carmen Wednesday afternoon. The broad daylight shooting happened outside a grocery store of Villas del Sol around 1:00 p.m. where he was targeted.
Witnesses reported seeing a lone gunman approach the man on foot, shoot him in the stomach and run off. Playa del Carmen police cordoned off the area while paramedics transferred the man to hospital.
He had been shot in the abdomen. He is reported to be of Colombian nationality and known as a local loan shark. His name has not been released.
Police conducted a search of the area for the shooter and found only a few pieces of clothing that had been disgarded to likely change is exterior appearance during his getaway.
Police have not announced the arrest of any suspects.
