Tulum, Q.R. — A late afternoon highway accident north of the town of Tulum left two vehicles destroyed. Emergency services were on the scene of the two vehicle crash Friday around 5:30 p.m. in response to motorist reports.
A completely destroyed car and heavily damaged van were found along the federal 307 highway. Both drivers were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. According to early information, the two vehicles collided nearly head on when one crossed the middle line and entered the other lane.
The public transport van was run off the road and into deep shoulder vegetation from where the driver emerged relatively unharmed. The driver of the car also walked away but was transferred to hospital by ambulance for medial treatment.
Motorists traveling the Tulum-Felipe Carrillo Puerto highway called the accident in to emergency serives early Friday evening. An ambulance, police and firemen were sent to the scene.
Police secured a section of the highway due to a large area of scattered debris. Firemen death with a large fluid leak that spilled over the highway from the engine of the crumpled car. Police are continuing with their investigation into an official cause of the accident.
