Two Tulum workers left covered in cement after barrel explosion

Tulum, Q.R. — Two workers were left covered in cement but without injuries Thursday night after an explosion. The barrel of a mixer truck still on company property exploded for unknown reasons.

Police, company personnel and Civil Protection were part of the responding team after nearby residential reports of an explosion. The accident was located inside the company property of Concretos MX of federal highway late Thursday.

The explosion was reported to 9-1-1 who in turn, called Civil Protection personnel. After an inspection and verification that no workers were injured, the back entrance was closed as a precautionary measure.

Both workers were transferred to a Playa del Carmen hospital by ambulance for a medical review. Several nearby houses were damaged due to the range of the exploding material.

The back entrance was closed by Civil Protection pending operational documentation.

Three closure seals were placed at the site by Civil Protection until the company presents its operational documents since there were allegations that the company operates illegally.
