Tulum, Q.R. — The grass rooftops of two modest homes were completely consumed by flames over the weekend. On Sunday, Tulum firemen arrived in 2 de Octubre to find the palapas fully engulfed.
By the time the rooftops had burned, the contents inside both homes had also been consumed by fire. While firemen were able to stop the fire from spreading to other nearby homes, they were not able to save the two that were already burning when they arrived.
The residents of both homes were able to get out without injuries. The Tulum Fire Department did not provide a possible cause for the initial blaze.
