Two missing youths located during aerial search off coast of Tulum

Tulum, Q.R. — Two youths reported missing were rescued off the coast of Tulum Thursday. The young men were located during an aerial search after being reported lost at sea.

The young men were found off the coast of Punta Allen and brought to safety in the Playa del Carmen Albatross helicopter. They were located in a coordinated search effort between the SSC, Navy and Civil Protection.

Erick “L” and José “R” had been missing since Wednesday afternoon. They were found adrift shortly before 10:00 a.m. Thursday morning. Once on land, both youths were medically evaluated by Civil Protection paramedics and returned home.

“Thanks to the joint work of the Playa del Carmen SSC, the Navy, and Civil Protection, two missing individuals were rescued off the coast of Punta Allen.

“Once again, the Albatross helicopter demonstrates why its incorporation was a wise decision by President Estefanía Mercado’s administration; saving lives is a priority. Both rescued individuals were evaluated by medical personnel and are in stable condition,” the Secretary of Playa del Carmen Citizen Security said in a statement.
