Two killed on Tulum highway after slamming into back of dump truck

Tulum, Q. R. — A highway accident near the town of Chemuyil has claimed the life of two. On Saturday morning, a collision between a pickup and dump truck left two inside the pickup dead.

Motorists traveling that section of the federal 307 alerted emergency services who responded by sending municipal authorities. Although an ambulance was called, the man and woman found inside the truck were pronounced at the scene.

The crash happened just before 7:00 a.m. outside a Chemuyil gas station. Personnel from the National Guard Highway Division were first on scene.

Firemen from the municipality of Tulum were called in to help remove the trapped bodies from inside the cab due to the extent of exterior damage. The impact into the back of the dump truck completely destroying the vehicle in the process.

The entire engine was pushed in toward the cab, trapping both people inside. A long line of highway traffic formed during the time the road was closed while authorities cleared the scene.
