Coba, Q.R. — A nighttime two vehicle collision outside the town of Coba has left two dead and two seriously injured. On Saturday night, police from the municipality of Tulum responded to the report of the accident.
A car and small pickup were found with extensive damage along with four bodies. According to reports, the deceased were traveling in a Ford Fiesta which crashed head on into the small pickup truck.
Inside the pickup were two people. Both people from inside the truck were rushed to hospital in serious condition. The extent of their injuries is unknown. The two people from inside the car were pronounced dead on scene by responding paramedics.
According to authorities, it was around 8:00 p.m. when the two vehicle crashed along a section of highway between the towns of Cobá and Manuel Antonio Ay. Reports say the driver of the car, for unknown reasons, invaded the oncoming lane where it crashed head-on with the Ranger pickup.
Both lanes of highway were closed by police and emergency personnel while they attended to the accident.
