Tulum, Q.R. — Authorizes have seized 30 kilos of fireworks and arrested two vendors in the municipality of Tulum that they say, were selling gunpowder-based fireworks.
The seizure came as a surprise to the vendors when officers from Protección Civil Municipal arrived with police to remove their fireworks from public sale in the community of Manuel Antonio Ay. While civil protection took their 30-kilo stash, police arrested the pair for the illegal sale of pyrotechnics.
The Director of Civil Protection, Lucio Salvador Arguea, explained that due to the proximity of the December holidays, inspections in various stores and businesses will be increased to pull the illegal products from vendors since they are dangerous and too often result in serious injuries.
He added that all seized pyrotechnics are secured and delivered to military facilities of the National Defense for destruction as mandated by law.
