Tulum, Q.R. — Violence broke out between taxi drivers and mototaxis in Tulum that left at least three units damaged.
A group of taxi drivers from Tiburones del Caribe were seen attacking mototaxi units outside a supermarket in Tulum. Several of the taxi drivers were videoed attacking the units with sticks, overturning them and breaking lights and windshields.
The clashes between taxi and mototaxi drivers continues with unionized taxi drivers saying they are unfair competition. The state has tolerated the mototaxi drivers being a form of self-employment and normally offering their services in irregular areas.
