Tulum street shooting leaves one dead one critical

Tulum, Q.R. — Paramedics pronounced a man dead outside the front entrance of a Tulum hotel Friday. Two men were reportedly hit by a spray of bullets in a targeted shooting in central Tulum early Friday.

One man was killed and the second transferred to hospital.

The shooting happened shorty after midnight on the street in front of a hotel. One of the victims ran to the hotel for cover but was hit by bullets. He was pronounced dead at the hotel entrance by responding paramedics.

The second shooting victim was taken to Tulum hospital but due to the extent of his injuries, was transferred to a Playa del Carmen hospital. He is reported to be in critical condition.

State and Municipal police began a search operation for the armed suspects, but have not reported any arrests. Witnesses said they heard nearly a dozen shots fired at the two men.

Authorities have not provided a possible motive for the shooting, nor have they identified those involved.
