Tulum, Q.R. — Police report an early morning shooting in Tulum has left one dead and four with injuries. The shooting took place during the early morning hours of Thursday in the city’s center.
Emergency services were alerted to the gunfire on Beta Street around 3:30 a.m. with police and paramedics responding to the situation. When they arrived, they located one deceased male laying in the street with four others injured.
Among those injured was 26-year-old Gioia from Switzerland, 30-year-old Victor N from Sonora and 49-year-old David N from Yucatan. All were transferred to Playa del Carmen hospital. The fourth, 23-year-old Baltazar N from Guerrero, drove himself to a private clinic for treatment. The deceased has been identified as 31-year-old Abel N.
Police say numerous shells from at least two different weapons were found at the scene. They also located a Beretta that was left behind. A motive for the shooting remains unknown.
Also on Thursday, a man was shot dead in broad daylight while riding his bike in the Mezzanine area of Tulum. The man has been identified as Edwin N, an alleged drug dealer. He was found by responding police laying on the ground beside his bicycle.
Arrests were not made in either of the Thursday shootings. It is the third shooting in as many days in Tulum. On Tuesday, a man and a woman were shot while on Playa Paraíso in Tulum. Their assailants fled on a motorcycle.
