Tulum, Q.R. — Tulum police have detained a man they say was seen attempting to set fire to a palapa. In a statement, the Tulum City Council reported policemen were conducting a surveillance tour along the Tulum – Boca Paila highway when they were flagged down by citizens.
They were lead to the site of a palapa that had just begun to burn, however, passersby were able to extinguish flames. Witnesses who saw the man set the structure on fire were able to provide police with a description.
Not far from the site, police were successful in locating the man who was reportedly trying to hide. Arrested was Mérida N from Guatemala. He was taken into custody for destruction of municipal property.
