Tulum, Q.R. — Police in Tulum have detained a man who, a neighbor said, tried to snatch her son. The incident happened in the irregular residential area of 2 de Octubre Monday night while a woman was distracted cleaning.
While she was cleaning her home, the man took advantage of the distraction, grabbing her son by the waist and attempting to flee. Hearing his screams, the mother ran after the man as did other neighbors who also heard the commotion.
Neighbors were successful in capturing the man and freeing the child. The man was held by neighbors for police after others called 911 for help. Responding officers arrived and detained 32-year-old Gustavo N, from Chiapas.
The reasons for the attempted child abduction were not clear at the time of his arrest. The age of the child was not revealed.
