Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — A patient being transported in an ambulance that overturned died Saturday. Two paramedics were treated for injuries in the single vehicle accident that happened on a section of the Tulum airport road in the municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
Paramedics were transporting a construction worker to hospital after suffering heat stroke Saturday afternoon. Along the way, the driver of the Sedena (Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional) ambulance overturned the unit.
The rollover happened shortly before 4:00 p.m. Numerous emergency vehicles were quick to respond to the accident since it happened during an official work tour by airport authorities.
According to early information, the ISSSTE ambulance, assigned to Sedena, overturned when trying to avoid another vehicle. Passing motorists reported the accident to 9-1-1.
Ambulance personnel from the Tulum Hospital were supported by Tulum Civil Protection personnel who also responded to the report.
First aid was applied to the two military men inside the ambulance. The patient they were transporting was declared dead at the scene.
