Tulum Mayor Marciano Dzul loses battle with cancer at 54

Tulum, Q.R. — Marciano Dzul Caamal, the mayor of Tulum, has passed away. His family announced his passing early Saturday. Dzul was in an out-of-state hospital being treated for pancreatic cancer.

He was diagnosed only several weeks ago and had surgery in a Monterrey hospital. He was following up with rigorous chemotherapy, however, he lost his battle. According to his family, Marciano Dzul died early on the morning of March 4, 2023.

On Tulum City Hall social media, on behalf of the Dzul family they posted:

“On behalf of the entire Dzul Family we send you these words: ¨Then Jesus said to him: —I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even if he dies; and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?¨ John 11:25-26

During the early morning we left our father, husband, brother, uncle, friend and human being who always gave his heart for people. There is no consolation for those of us who love him and know him, but we know that for those who love him without knowing him either.

We share with you a hug and a tear, but also our peace that Marciano lived as he wanted and died giving everything for his family and his beloved Tulum. God lent it to us for many wonderful years in which he filled this world with beauty, teachings and helping others.

The Dzul Family, we appreciate the enormous affection that you are dedicating to him at this time through all means, and we appreciate that you know how to respect our pain.

Thank you for so much, God Bless you.”
