Tulum, Q.R. — Tulum firemen were able to save a building after a balcony palapa caught fire. The fire happened on a building on Avenida Satélite and Andrómeda Oriente early Monday.

The fire, which was allegedly caused by the intense heat, created a dense column of smoke visible from several points around town. Citizens who saw the smoke called 9-1-1 who dispatched local firemen to the scene.

Within minutes, firefighters had the small blaze under control. Flames were extinguished, preventing them from spreading to other areas of the building which is also home to a restaurant.

Aside from a burned palapa, there was no other damage or injuries reported. Firemen are working with Tulum Civil Protection on an official cause for the fire.
