Tulum, Q.R. — A woman and her daughter were transferred to hospital with serious injuries after being involved in a two vehicle accident in the municipality of Tulum. On Wednesday afternoon, the compact car they were traveling in collided with the side of a parked cargo truck.
The male driver of the compact car died at the scene. His body was removed from behind the wheel. The accident happened in Manuel Antonio Ay, a community approximately 34 kilometers southwest of the town of Tulum.
Police were called to the 3:30 p.m. accident where they located the two smashed vehicles outside a highway hotel. The compact car suffered the most damage, resulting in the death of its driver and serious injuries to the two passengers.
The woman and her daughter from inside the car were transferred to a Playa del Carmen hospital due to the extent of their injuries.
According to early information, the driver of the white compact car is alleged to have veered off the road and into the parked cargo truck. The car came to a stop several meters from the truck in front of a hotel reception area.
Municipal Traffic Directorate continue to investigate the exact cause of the fatal accident.
