Trapped driver freed from two vehicle crash in south Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Firefighters were called to the scene of a two vehicle wreck Wednesday to free a trapped driver. The driver was left trapped in her car after serious highway accident south of Playa del Carmen.

According to preliminary data, the two vehicle accident happened Wednesday afternoon near the Calica overpass. The woman was left trapped in her car after being rear-ended by a transportation van.

Firefighters arrived with the support of Civil Protection to rescue the victim from the wrecked car that was located pushed off the highway and into weeds. Playa del Carmen firemen worked to remove the 60 year old driver from behind the wheel.

Civil Protection paramedics from unit 11 rushed her to hospital suffering head, neck and back injuries.

National Guard and SSC Secretariat of Citizen Security police arrived on scene to collect accident information. The driver of the van was not injured.

Both vehicles were heading south at the time of the crash. Early afternoon traffic in the southbound lanes were heavily disrputed by the accident and arrival of emergency vehicles.
