Othón P. Blanco, Q.R. — Hundreds of southern-based ejidos blocked a section of the federal highway Monday. The long weekend road block left dozens of vehicles at a standstill creating a several kilometer long line of backed up traffic.
The group blocked the federal road demanding pay for land used to build the Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport of Tulum. They were also demanding payment for land that was expropriated for Maya Train use.
The blockade was carried out at the junction of Los Chunes where hundreds of ejidos from Chumpón and annexes prevented the passage of non-emergency vehicles.
Authorities from the state government did eventually arrive to talk with the protesters and were successful in removing the road block. Details surrounding that meeting are unknown.
