Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The driver of a tourist transport van overturned leaving one person injured. The accident happened south of the city near the Calica bridge Sunday morning.
Emergency services were sent in response to numerous 9-1-1 calls to the 7:30 a.m. accident. At the scene, they found a white JAC Sunray overturned on its roof in a highway shoulder.

Witnesses reported seeing the van roll over, taking out a concrete Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) pole in the process. The hit left live CFE cables laying across part of the federal highway.
SSC (Secretariat of Citizen Security) police along with National Guard Highways and Civil Protection responded to the accident. One person was taken to a hospital for medical evaluation for various non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities cordoned off the area to carry out the rescue operation of passengers through the back door while CFE removed of the live cables from the road.
The driver was taken into custody from the scene. The van is owned by a local travel agency and was heading for Playa del Carmen at the time of the accident. There were no other vehicles involved in the rollover.

Wet roads and speed are being looked into as a possible cause for the single vehicle accident.
