Cancun, Q.R. — Three people each found guilty of murder have been sentenced to 40 years. In an oral trial hearing, the State Attorney General’s Office obtained a guilty verdict connecting three men to the murder of a teen.
Authorities say Gustavo Adolfo Bermudes Quintero, José Ángel Zamudio López and Óscar Leonel Algara Chi, were found guilty of aggravated homicide, committed against a Cancun teenager on November 11, 2022.
“The events for which these individuals will remain in prison for four decades occurred when the victim was walking through a parking lot in the Prado Norte subdivision.
“At that moment, the now-convicted individuals, in an EcoSport SUV, approached the teenager, stopped the vehicle, and then José Ángel Zamudio López shot him several times,” they reported.

According to the investigation conducted by the Investigative Police, the motive for the homicide was related to the purchase and sale of illicit substances.
Analysis of C5 security camera footage identified the characteristics of the vehicle and the likely perpetrators, which allowed for the execution of the arrest warrant on December 2, 2022.
All three, according to police, were part of a criminal group dedicated to the sale and distribution of narcotics in the state. Each man has also been fined 192,440 pesos and must pay 874,722.20 pesos as compensation for damages.
