Three killed and eight police injured in 3-vehicle crash on Tulum highway

Tulum, Q.R. — Three people died and eight others were injured when three vehicles crashed on a Tulum highway. The accident was reported early Thursday evening along a section of the Tulum-Cobá highway, three kilometers from the community of Macario Gómez in the municipality of Tulum.

The 8:00 p.m. accident involved the collision of two cars that left three people dead. A police patrol unit coming upon the accident scene had to swerve to avoid the crashed cars and debris on the road.

The swerving caused the unit to go off the road at highway speed, crashing into trees. From the unit, eight police officers were injured. The unit was heading to a transition zone when it came up the crashed vehicles.

Municipal police, firemen and paramedics from Tulum responded to the call for help. Medical personnel confirmed the death of two adults, one from each of the involved vehicles. A minor from inside one of the cars was also killed.
